About, privacy, and limitations
Learn what Scrammer does, what information it stores, how it supports accessibility, and what it cannot provide.
What is private and what is public
Scrammer does not send or store Written Help Finder text. You may write a short general summary or paste a message after removing names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, account numbers, passwords, security codes, QR codes, exact locations, and other identifying details. The text is compared on your device with a reviewed educational pattern guide and disappears when the page is refreshed or closed.
If you choose a screenshot for the Screenshot Safety Check, the image remains in temporary page memory and is not uploaded or saved by Scrammer. When supported by the browser, text recognition also runs on the device; Scrammer keeps only temporary warning-sign results and does not display or store the recognized text. Crop or cover private details before choosing an image. Refreshing or closing the page removes the image and results.
If you explicitly choose to share an anonymous quick community pattern, Scrammer stores only four broad categories you review first: possible scam type, contact method, situation stage, and pressure tactic. It also stores the submission time internally for automatic expiration and a random deletion credential, but no date is displayed publicly. It never stores a written description, screenshot, recognized text, or location with a quick pattern. Shared patterns expire after 90 days. A deletion control remains on the device used to share it.
Written Community summaries are stored privately until the Scrammer owner approves them. The form does not ask for a name. Scrammer stores the title, written summary, general city/county/state/region label, submission time, and a random deletion credential. Approved summaries become public for up to 90 days, but no date is displayed. Do not submit names, usernames, exact addresses, ZIP codes, pasted messages, accusations, contact details, account information, links, or other identifying information. Automated checks and owner review can still miss details.
Guided Help Finder, local-help, and challenge answers otherwise disappear when the page is refreshed or closed. If you choose to remember activity, only completed challenge dates and two general safety-card categories are stored in this browser. A local-help location is never stored or included in a Scrammer link.
Accessibility
Scrammer uses large controls, visible keyboard focus, semantic headings and labels, a skip link, reduced-motion support, plain language, and layouts intended to reflow on phones and at increased zoom.
Accessibility is an ongoing commitment. Scrammer aims toward WCAG 2.2 Level AA and welcomes testing with keyboard-only navigation, screen readers, increased zoom, narrow screens, and people with varied vision, dexterity, and technical experience.
What Scrammer cannot do
- It cannot determine whether a communication is legitimate or fraudulent.
- The Screenshot Safety Check can miss warning signs, misread an image, or be unavailable in some browsers. Few detected signs never mean a message is safe.
- Its written-description and screenshot tools do not search the live open web. They compare temporary information on the device with a reviewed educational pattern guide.
- It does not file or track official reports.
- It is not an emergency service.
- It does not provide legal advice or replace a qualified professional.
- It cannot promise investigation, representation, services, or recovery.
Quality commitment: Scrammer links guidance to official or established sources, records review dates, and updates material information when changes are identified.
